Forest ReLeaf of Missouri - Summer Associate VISTA
The May 16 tornado caused catastrophic damage to O’Fallon Park, destroying an estimated 350 trees—making it the most heavily impacted park in North City—and Forest ReLeaf of Missouri is partnering with City Forestry to replant them this spring. Because newly planted trees require consistent watering and care to survive, especially in their first summer, Forest ReLeaf is seeking additional capacity to ensure the community does not experience further loss after already enduring significant environmental damage. At the same time, Forest ReLeaf is launching a new City Tree Farm at the Scott Joplin House to grow 1,000 young trees in its first year in alignment with the City’s 2025 Sustainability Plan, a project that will also require daily maintenance such as watering and weeding to support long‑term canopy restoration.
The key responsibilities of the Summer Associate VISTAs will be:
Hosting weekly volunteer groups up to 40 people to bucket water trees and ensuring all 350 trees at O’Fallon Park are sufficiently watered;
Daily watering of potted trees at the City Tree Farm;
Supporting other possible activities, such as event planning, that will engage residents in the tornado-impacted areas.
