St. Louis University Center for Social Action- Summer Associate VISTA
Saint Louis University’s Campus Kitchen recovers unused food, prepares nutritious meals, and distributes them to community partners working to reduce hunger in the St. Louis region. The program blends service, sustainability, and education by engaging students and volunteers in addressing food insecurity through hands‑on meal preparation and garden‑based learning. A Summer Associate VISTA expands this mission by supporting food recovery efforts, supporting garden projects, and strengthening community partnerships during the high‑demand summer months.
The key responsibilities of the Summer Associate VISTA will be:
Developing relationships to expand the number of local food vendors to better support Campus Kitchen food supply.
Increasing fresh produce through expanding the local garden.
Prepare for kitchen operations by processing and freezing fresh produce and storing shelf-stable foods.
Enhancing Saint Louis community partnerships, especially with organizations focused on food insecurity and alleviating poverty.
Respond to community partner needs by developing and promoting SLU student volunteer opportunities in St. Louis.
